Cholestrol Levels

 

Cholesterol Transporters:

Cholesterol is transported through your blood stream by lipoproteins. There are two different types of lipoproteins: 

LDL(low-density lipoproteins): LDL is known as your “bad” cholesterol.

HDL(high density lipoprotein): HDL is known as the “good” cholesterol.

BLOOD VALUE                  RISK LEVEL

<200 mg/dL                      Desirable

200-239 mg/dL                Borderline High Risk 

≥ 240 mg/dL                     High Risk


LDL Cholesterol

Blood Value                      Risk Level

< 100 mg/dL                     Optimal

100-129 mg/dL               Near Optimal

130-159 mg/dL               Borderline High

160-189 mg/dL               High

190 mg/dL                       Very High


An HDL of ≥60 mg/dL gives some protection against heart disease.
